About Plasencia Cigars

Few names carry as much weight in the premium cigar world as Plasencia. The family’s tobacco story began in 1865 when Don Eduardo Plasencia emigrated from the Canary Islands to Cuba, where he established tobacco farms that would remain in the family for nearly a century – until they were confiscated by the Castro regime in 1963.

Forced to rebuild, the family relocated to Nicaragua in 1965, planting their finest tobacco seeds in new soil. Further hardship followed when their farms were destroyed during the Sandinista conflict in 1978, sending the family to Honduras. Undeterred, Nestor Plasencia Sr. re-entered the industry in 1987, and by 1990, the family had restored full operations in Nicaragua.

Today, Plasencia Cigars is the world’s largest tobacco grower, producing cigars for more than 30 premium brands including Rocky Patel and Alec Bradley. The family launched their own branded range in 2017, guided by a strict “seed-to-smoke” philosophy – controlling every stage of production, from planting and harvesting through to ageing, blending and hand-rolling.

The Alma Fuerte range sits at the very pinnacle of that philosophy: a showcase of what five generations of tobacco expertise can produce when given the finest raw materials and the patience to do it properly.
