Planeta Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a superb, traditional, cold-pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) from Sicily. It is bottled as a Sicilia IGP and is made from a blend of Biancolilla, Cerasuola and Nocellara del Belice. From the 2022 harvest onwards, this premium Sicilian olive oil has been organically certified.
Although Planeta Wines is most famous for its wines, including arguably Sicily’s finest Chardonnay, they have also produced the finest olive oil for many years. Planeta grows Biancolilla, Cerasuola and Nocellara del Belice olives, three Sicilian varieties which have been rediscovered and reinstated by Planeta as flagship Sicilian olive varieties. They produce three olive oils, this excellent organic oil and two 100% varietal blends made from destoned fruit, one from 100% Biancolilla and one from 100% Nocellara del Belice.
Planeta’s brand new, state-of-the-art, olive press was completed in 2003 and is situated at Capparrina, in the heart of their 150 hectares of olive groves, planted to ensure that the coast at Menfi should remain free of buildings forever, thereby placing the countryside above the interests of family and business. Today there are over 150 hectares of olive orchards which stretch down the hill towards the white beach of Porto Palo.
The Biancolilla, Cerasuola and Nocellara del Belice olives are harvested by hand in October and are washed twice prior to being pressed. The olives are then pressed with “hammers” which reduce them to a paste which is then kneaded at a low temperature (i.e. cold pressed) before the oil is separated from the olive paste.
Planeta Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) is bottled as a Sicilia IGP (Indicazione Geografica Protetta). This is an indication of quality awarded to an agricultural or food item whose particular characteristics of excellence depend exclusively on the area where it is produced. Only 2% of Italian olive oil production comes under the label of DOP or IGP. Sicilia IGP guarantees that the oil is made, not only with olives harvested in Sicily, but is also processed, bottled and packaged there too.
The unfiltered Planeta Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil retains its full spectrum of natural aromatic and flavour compounds. The absence of filtering or centrifugation ensures that all of the beneficial polyphenols and antioxidants, painstakingly developed in the Sicilian olives, are preserved.

Appearance: A brilliant dense green, evoking pistachios.
Nose: On the nose it has the typical intense aromas of the oil of this area; grass, green tomatoes, artichoke and seaweed. Bordered by fruity notes of cedro (cedar) and aromas of exotic woods. Planeta Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil is superb with served with some freshly baked bread.
However, the complex palate makes it ideal drizzled over green leaf salads, caponata and simply prepared river fish, octopus and squid.
It is also great drizzled over grilled red meats, lamb chops, vegetable dishes, young, fresh cheeses or soups.
