Description

Calvados Berneroy Fine is the youngest Calvados in the Berneroy range which also consists of a VSOP and XO. It is bursting with fresh apple flavors and aromas.

Berneroy Calvados is situated in the heart of the Pays d’Auge region in Northern France. Since its creation in the middle of the 20th Century, Berneroy Calvados has gained recognition as a high quality Calvados and as one of the leading brands in this category. The owners Camus have revamped the whole range to include a Fine, VSOP, XO, 20 Year Old and “Pomme Captif” (a bottle of Calvados containing an apple) and have modernised the presentation.

More than 180 distinct apple varieties are permitted for crafting Calvados. These traditional cider apples thrive in the verdant fields of Normandy and are harvested at their optimum ripeness, from mid-September to late November. Once collected, the apples are washed, crushed, and pressed to create a fragrant fresh apple must or juice.

After the apple harvest, the first step of the Calvados production process is to produce cider. This cider is then double distilled in pot stills. This produces a crystal clear smooth spirit which is then greatly improved by oak ageing in oak barrels where it develops colour and desirable aromas and flavours.

Calvados Berneroy Fine is a blend of two to three years old Calvados, distilled in traditional Calvados copper stills and then aged in 300L to 400L French Limousin oak barrels. It is therefore much more characterised by the flavours and aromas of fresh apples and pears compared to the older Calvados.

What is “Le Trou Normand”?

Calvados is the basis of the tradition of le trou Normand, or “the Norman hole”. This is a small drink of Calvados taken between courses in a very long meal, sometimes with apple sorbet, supposed to re-awaken the appetite.
