Description

Cognac Frapin Chateau Fontpinot XO is one of this prestigious Cognac house’s bottlings from their “Tresor du Chateau” range.

Cognac Frapin, for 20 Generations

The Frapin family has been distilling in the Cognac region for 20 generations, and their single estate consists of 240 hectares of vineyards in Grande Champagne. Their headquarters are located at the stunning Chateau Fontpinot, situated among the vineyards in the commune of Segonzac.

Grande Champagne is one of 6 sub-regions of Cognac; it is set on chalky soils (similar to those of the Champagne region) and is generally considered to produce the richest, most long-lived cognacs.

L’Agriculture Raisonnée

Cognac Frapin practises “L’agriculture raisonnée“, which is eco-friendly, responsible farming.  The vineyards are cultivated naturally, taking into account elements such as the biology of the vine, parasites, weather conditions, and soil. Natural elements are also restored to the earth by adding pruned branches and distillation residue back to the vineyard.

Cognac Frapin Chateau Fontpinot XO

Cognac Frapin Chateau Fontpinot XO is a single vineyard Cognac. It is made exclusively from grapes harvested, distilled, aged and bottled at the Château Fontpinot. Hand-crafted distillation over lees and a long ageing in dry cellars give it a particular character.

Tasting Notes

From Frapin:
Colour and bouquet: Château Fontpinot XO reveals itself and stands out right away with its silky robe featuring warm, golden, and slightly coppery reflections. This treasure of the château is the result of long aging, particularly in dry cellars, which imparts a subtle, complex, fine, and persistent bouquet, composed of aromas of candied fruits (dried apricot, dried fig), almond paste, hazelnut, nougat, followed by notes of port, and finally the famous ‘Rancio.’
On The Palate: The palate is balanced, rich, and complex with aromas of dried fruits, candied fruits, and an exceptional length. Add a drop of water to Château Fontpinot XO to release the aromas and soften the strength of the cognac. ‘To appreciate Château Fontpinot XO, one must be indulgent.

Food Pairing

This Cognac delights desserts with its fruity flavours and adds character to those who enjoy the simple pleasures of a cheese platter.’ Patrice Piveteau, Cellar Master.

For savoury dishes, Frapin recommends:

  • Duck tournedos with truffled reduced jus, traditional potato gratin
  • Lamb rump steak with demi-glace jus, grilled and confit seasonal vegetables
  • Spiced pigeon with sweet spices, polenta fries
  • Red mullet stuffed with langoustines and saffron, Indian rice

For a sweet pairing, try with chocolate desserts and pralines.
