Maraba Coffee Liqueur is made by the Gorilla Spirits Co from Rwandan coffee beans. They also produce a salted hazelnut version.
The Gorilla Spirits Co. was founded by Andy Daniels and was born out of a passion for wishing to produce high-quality, artisan spirits while also supporting conservation efforts. Andy spent four years perfecting the Mountain Strength Gin recipe until the first release in 2015. The original distillery was located in Four Marks near Alton but, needing more space, they relocated to the village of Upton Grey, southeast of Basingstoke, in the summer of 2018. As of 2024, the spirits are made at the Spirit of Manchester Distillery.
As well as this fabulous flavoured gin they also produce various other gins, including Silverback Mountain Strength, an Old Tom, a Wild Strawberry and Blackback Vodka, Karisimbi Spiced Rum and Maraba coffee liqueurs. Their products have received many awards and accolades for their quality and craftsmanship.
The base for the Maraba Coffee Liqueur is a single estate Red Bourbon Arabica coffee from Maraba, the coffee growing district of Rwanda, makes this incredibly rich, smooth liqueur which is full of buttery chocolate notes. The beans are roasted and ground for Gorilla Spirits by coffee roasting experts Moon Roast Coffee who are based near Alresford. The coffee is cold brewed for 72 hours to gently extract all the wonderful flavours, from light floral to deep chocolate to produce the coffee liqueur.
For every bottle of Maraba Coffee Liqueur sold Gorilla Spirits donates to the Kula Project a non-profit organisation, that works to eradicate poverty through the development of entrepreneurs in Rwanda’s coffee communities.
Each bottle is made from 100% post consumer recycled glass, meaning that it is made from the glass that all of us have put into our recycling bins!
Maraba Coffee Liqueur has deep, buttery chocolate and coffee flavours and with ruity, vanilla and floral aromas. Not overly sweet on the finish.
Try and Maraba and Tonic, Old Fashioned or Espresso Martini.
