Foursquare Penultimus is a 15-year-old single blended rum from Barbados. It is the thirtieth release (Mark XXX) and penultimate chapter in the legendary Exceptional Cask Selection series created by master distiller Richard Seale.
Foursquare Penultimus is now available at Fareham Wine Cellar. This is a final, unforgettable toast to a landmark era in Barbados rum. Secure your bottle before this chapter closes forever.
This exceptional single blended rum marries the bold character of Foursquare’s copper double-retort pot still and continuous twin-column still distillates. Aged for fifteen years under tropical Barbados conditions with masterful dual maturation, it combines a rich ex-bourbon foundation with rare ex-Moscatel (Spanish sweet dessert wine) casks.
This is the first time that Spanish Moscatel wine casks have been used for a release by Foursquare Rum Distillery.
Tasting notes: Expect a rich, elegant profile with toasted coconut, warm vanilla and caramel from the bourbon casks, lifted by darker fruit notes of plump raisins, dried figs and gentle baking spice from the Moscatel influence. Silky texture, balanced intensity at 57%, and a long, refined finish.
Foursquare Rum is produced by R L Seale, one of Barbados’ oldest family-owned trading houses, with rum-making traditions passed from father to son since 1820. Owner and master distiller Richard Seale is one of the Caribbean’s most respected and innovative figures – a passionate advocate for transparent labelling who also produces the acclaimed Doorly’s and R L Seale ranges.
The Foursquare Distillery stands on the site of a former sugar factory dating back to 1636. One of the most modern and efficient rum distilleries in the world, it is highly energy-efficient and environmentally conscious. It has been named International Spirits Challenge Rum Producer of the Year for ten years running.
Foursquare rum is made from locally sourced molasses, fermented slowly over 44 hours, then distilled in both pot and column stills. The pot still brings complexity and flavour, while the column still adds balance and aroma.
This rum is the penultimate chapter before the Exceptional Cask Selection series concludes with the final Mark XXXI “Epilogue”.

From Peter Holland, Foursquare Brand Ambassador (UK):
Nose: Complex, evolving layers of dark, bitter chocolate, black tea leaves, ground mixed spices, and Medjool dates vie with dessicated coconut, green grape skins, dried banana chips, and a hint of zesty lemon.
Palate: Soft, oily and sweet on the palate. A sense of freshness. Golden melon, ripe pineapple, gentle caramel, and more dark chocolate.
Finish: Grippy and long-lasting. A tangy, juicy lemon sherbet rush gives way to more green-grape-skin astringency that lasts and lasts.
