Mossburn Distillers & Blenders

Mossburn Distillers & Blenders is a Scotch whisky project owned by Marussia Beverages, part of the empire controlled by Swedish billionaire Frederik Paulsen. The company is headquartered in Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders on the site of the former Jedforest Hotel. There are plans for a new distillery, called Reivers Distillery, which will be one of the first new distilleries to be built in the Borders for over 150 years.

Mossburn have also established Torabhaig Distillery on the Isle of Skye, which opened in 2017 (the second distillery on Skye after Highland Park). The parent company also own the Kaikyo Distillery in Japan, which produces Hatozaki whiskies. Not content with this, they have also created the peaty Caisteal Chamuis whisky range. The first Mossburn bottlings were released in 2017.

Vintage Cask Bottlings

Building a whisky distillery and waiting for whisky to come online (the spirit has to be aged for at least 3 years before it can even be called whisky) is a long-term project. So, in the meantime, Mossburn have started the ball rolling by bottling a small collection of ever-changing single malt whiskies and two permanent blended malts, an Island and Speyside, with bespoke cask bills. There are also some very limited, occasional small batch and single cask bottlings.

About Blair Athol Distillery

The Blair Athol distillery is located on the south edge of Pitlochry in Perthshire, near the River Tummel. It was established in 1798 by John Steward and Robert Robertson. Originally named Aldour after the Allt Dour Burn (Gaelic for “Burn of the Otter”), its water source, the distillery is nestled at the gateway to the Scottish Highlands in the foothills of the Grampian Mountains. Today, the distillery is owned by Diageo and the spirit distilled here is used in Bell’s blended whisky, Diageo’s Flora and Fauna and Independent bottlings, like this one.
