SPEY 18 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Whisky is made at the Speyside Distillery which is located near the hamlet of Drumguish close to the village of Kingussie in the Cairngorm Mountains. No fewer than half of Scotland’s malt distilleries are located in Speyside, which is renowned for producing whiskies of subtle depth and elegance.
The Speyside Distillery was founded by George Christie in 1965. It was the site of an old barley mill and croft which Christie lovingly converted into a whisky distiller and was eventually finished in 1987 with the first spirit was distilled on Christmas Day 1990. The distillery has some of the smallest pot stills in Scotland but these are capable of producing 500,000 litres of spirit per year. The water source is the River Tromie, a tributary of the River Spey, which ran the waterwheel that powered the old mill. Most recently, in 2012, The Speyside Distillery Ltd was acquired by Harvey’s of Edinburgh.
SPEY 18 year old made from a very carefully selected blend of some of the oldest SPEY whisky stocks. Maturation in vintage sherry butts produces a velvety smooth, mellow whisky with big, mouth filling flavours. Deliciously sweet and well balanced. Limited release of only 1,500 bottles. Bottled at 46% ABV.
As well as SPEY, the Speyside Distillery also produces Drumguish and Beinn Dubh Scotch whiskies.
