Antica Formula is a red fine vermouth made made in Italy. It is based on a recipe found in the Carpano archive and created by Antonio Benedetto Carpano dating back to 1786. Antonio Benedetto is widely recognised as the inventor of Vermouth.
Today Antica Formula is produced by Fratelli Branca Distillerie of Milan. They also produce many other products including Carpano, Punt e Mes and Fernet Branca. To produce Antica Formula, local Piedmontese Moscato wines are blended with robust red wines from Sicily as the base wine for the Vermouth. To this the ‘concia’ in added. The “concia” is a combination of spirits, sugar and a secret herbal infusion of up to 50 herbs and vanilla.
