Blavod Vodka is the famous black coloured spirit drink. It is coloured using a natural herb called Black Catechu. It is marketed as the orignal black vodka. However; in the UK it is now labeled as a “premium black spirit” rather than vodka.
Dramatically black in color and surprisingly smooth on the palate, this unique spirit is crafted with a triple-distilled vodka base infused with the essence of the Black Catechu herb. The creator of Blavod, Mark Dorman, was working in San Francisco when he was offered a choice of 28 vodkas in a bar and he thought it would be a great idea to offer drinkers a black vodka. After much experimentation it launched to market in March 1998. Today it is part of Distil, who also own Blackwoods Gin and Vodka.
The colour of Blavod Vodka is changed by adding the botanical Catechu, a herb found in southern Asia and central and east Africa, (extracts from the heartwood of Burmese catechu acacia trees). Although rich in tannin, catechu has no effect on the vodka’s flavour; however, many say it makes the vodka a little smoother. The subtle infusion of triple distilled, double-filtered English grain vodka with the Black Catechu produces an elegant smooth tasting drink with a look like no other.
The captivating jet black hue instantly turns heads, making a dramatic statement in any cocktail, great in Halloween cocktails and for a dark Martini.
Bottled at 37.5% ABV.
