Bellevoye Blanc is a French Triple Malt Whisky finished in Sauternes casks. It is one of four French Whisky expressions release by Bellevoye. The others are the non-peated Bleu and Rouge and the peated Bellevoye Noir. Bellevoye Whisky was founded by Jean Moueix and Alexandre Sirech who set out to make a premium French whisky. It France’s “first and only” triple malt whisky. In this case, triple malt means that it is a blend of single malt whiskies from three different whisky distilleries, one in Brittany, one in Alsace and one in Cognac. So actually it could more accurately be described as a blended malt whisky.
The three single malt whiskies, all unpeated, that are blended to make the Bellevoye Blanc French Whisky are aged between 3 and 8 years old at the distilleries at which they are produced. The whisky then undergoes a blending and a secondary ageing at Bellevoye’s cellars in the Cognac region. In this case, for the Bellevoye Blanc, it is aged for a further 6 months in ex Sauternes casks on the fine wine lees. The blending process produces whiskies with aromatic complexity, volume, balance and a long finish.
A little research tells me that the distilleries are Distillerie Claeyssens, Distillerie Hepp and Maison Brunet.
All of the ingredients, including the barley, are 100% French.
From Bellevoye:
The nose reveals a wide aromatic palette. Some notes of dried fruit (currant grapes, apricots and date) mingle with notes of spices (vanilla, cinnamon, ginger) and acacia honey.​
​The mouth is greedy. It has the flavor of a ripe and juicy fruit.​
The finish is accompanied by hints of almond and hazelnut.
