Suntory Hibiki Harmony Blended Whisky is a blend of grain and malt whiskies and is the Suntory’s entry point to the Hibiki range of Japanese Blended whiskies.
As the global demand for whisky increases, there has been a massive strain on the supply of older whiskies. This has led to the creation of a number of non-age-statement (NAS) whiskies including new bottlings like (my favourites) Talisker Tempest, Talisker Storm and Macallan Gold. The popularity and success of Japanese whisky in recent years means their supplies of whisky are under pressure too, so it is no surprise that distillers and bottlers have had to introduce non-age-statement to their ranges. Hibiki Harmony Blended Whisky is Suntory’s non-age-statement response to this world shortage of older whiskies.
As mentioned above, Suntory Hibiki Harmony Blended Whisky is a blend of more than 12 grain and malt whiskies sourced from Suntory’s three distilleries: the world-famous Yamazaki distillery, the distillery in the forest, Hakushu, and the Chita Grain distillery. These are skillfully blended by Master blender Shingo Torii and chief blender Shinji Fukuyo and they include the same key malt and grain whiskies that are used in the older Hibiki blends. The various whiskies are aged in a combination of American white oak, ex Sherry and rare Japanese oak (mizunara) casks.
The Suntory Hibiki range is the only blended Japanese whisky that Suntory produce. Hibiki, meaning resonance in Japanese, speaks to the soul and emotions of the most discerning whisky lover. Hibiki is presented in a 24 facet decanter type bottle. The 24 facets represent the 24 seasons of the ancient Japanese lunar calendar as well as the 24 hours of the day. Suntory Hibiki Harmony is a great entry point into the world of Japanese Blended whisky.
