Calem 1977 Vintage Port is made by Port Calem, an old Port shippers, who have a long history. It was founded in 1859, by Antonio Alves Calem, Porto Calem and initially only shipped wines (using their own fleet) to Brazil in exchange for various Brazilian exotic woods. Since 1998 Calem Port has been part of Sogevinus SGPS, S.A., who also represent Kopke, Barros and Burmester Ports. Calem have vineyards and source high quality grapes in the Douro region, especially in Cima Corgo and Douro Superior areas. Their Quinta, Quinta do Arnozelo, is located here. After vinification of their Ports in the Douro, the ageing of Porto Cálem Wines takes place in the company cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. They are located in the Douro opposite margin of the Porto Ribeira (historical riverside of the city), next to D. Luiz I bridge, these cellars show perfect conditions to successfully age the Port Wines.
