Grahams 1970 Vintage Port presented in 75cl bottles. Perfect for anyone celebrating a 50th birthday or anniversary in 2020.
W & J Grahams was founded in Oporto, Portugal’s second city, in 1820 by the two brothers William and John Graham and for nearly two hundred years Grahams Ports have been made by just two families, the Grahams and the Symingtons – in 1970 the Grahams sold the company to the Symington Family (owners of Dow, Cockburn, Warre, Vesuvio et al.) who brought with them their own rich heritage in the Port trade. Graham’s has a reputation as a producer of outstanding Vintage Port for well over a century. Graham Vintage Ports are only made in years of exceptionally high-quality harvests, which on average occur two or three times in a decade.
From Graham’s:
“Generally declared, 1970 was an outstanding vintage with ripe fruit flavours and concentrated tannins, great balance and structure. Certainly one of the absolute finest Vintage Ports of the 50 years up to 1970. Now mature, it is probably one of the finest glasses of port that you will ever taste. A wine of this quality, from the best houses, will age superbly for many decades to come.
Graham’s is one of the finest wines of this year, showing all the very best characteristics of the rich 1970 Vintage. There is an excellent deep, garnet red colour at the heart of the glass. On the nose this wine reveals a rich intensity of caramelised fruit and coffee. This wine is perfectly harmonised, round and soft, yet with a certain grip, and presents huge length on the palate.”
Our Grahams 1970 Vintage Port has come direct from Graham’s UK agents, so you can be assured this has been very well cellared. This fine, old vintage Port will require decanting, please read our Guide to Decanting Port.
The Graham’s Vintage Port Bond is an innovative offering that allows individuals to purchase vintage port in the year of its harvest, making it an ideal gift for marking special occasions such as births, weddings, or graduations. It is a “futures” option, a bit like “en primeur.”
Traditionally, vintage port is declared and released approximately 18 months after the harvest, but with the Port Bond, you can secure your allocation in advance. You can choose between a single bottle or a case of six bottles of Graham’s Vintage Port, and in years when only a Single Quinta Vintage is produced, the bond entitles the holder to magnum bottles of Grahams Quinta dos Malvedos instead.
