Offley Boa Vista 2011 Vintage Port is crafted from carefully selected grapes sourced from the prestigious Pinhão region, particularly the renowned vineyards of Quinta da Boa Vista. A testament to exceptional vintages in the Douro.
Offley Boa Vista is a well-regarded port wine produced in the Douro Valley by Offley. The brand has earned a reputation for blending tradition with modern winemaking techniques to create high-quality ports. Offley traces its origins back to 1737, when William Offley, a wine merchant from England, founded the company. Originally focused on wine trading, Offley quickly expanded into the production of port, capitalizing on the growing demand for fortified wines in Britain and beyond. In the 19th century, Joseph James Forrester, a prominent figure in the Port industry, joined the company and became instrumental in shaping its legacy. Forrester’s contributions included detailed maps of the Douro Valley and his advocacy for improving winemaking practices.
The Boa Vista vineyard, one of Offley’s crown jewels, is situated in the heart of the Douro Valley, known for its steep terraces, schist soils, and unique microclimates, which are ideal for cultivating the region’s traditional grape varieties. In the modern era, Offley was bought by the Sogrape Vinhos group in 1997, a leading Portuguese wine producer, ensuring access to cutting-edge winemaking technology while preserving its heritage.
Offley Vintage Port is produced by the traditional Porto wine method. The hand-picked grapes underwent stalk-removal and crushing before fermentation, under controlled temperature, with skin maceration in order to extract the best components. After the harvest, the wines remained in the Douro until the following spring, when they were taken to
Vila Nova de Gaia and entered in lodges for ageing. The wines selected for this Offley Vintage 2011 were carefully tasted and analysed by the winemaking team that confirmed the excellence of the wines and prepared the final blend. The final wine was bottled in the spring of 2020 without finning treatment.
The 2011 vintage in the Douro Valley is widely regarded as one of the greatest in recent history, producing exceptional Vintage Ports, including Offley Boa Vista 2011 Vintage Port. The year is noted for its near-perfect growing conditions, which resulted in wines of remarkable structure, depth, and longevity. Offley Vintage 2011 will continue its evolution in bottle for several decades.
The 2011 vintage is a blend of 45% Touriga Nacional, 45% Touriga Franca and 10% Tinta Roriz.
Appearance: Deep purple-black colour, almost opaque, indicating its youth and concentration.
Nose: A complex bouquet of ripe dark fruits—blackberry, cassis, and plum—layered with floral notes of violet, subtle mint, and spicy undertones of black pepper and clove. Over time, these aromas will evolve into dried fruit, cedar, and tobacco notes.
Palate: Rich and full-bodied, with a velvety texture. The 2011 Offley Boa Vista exhibits a perfect balance of intense fruit flavours, firm but ripe tannins, and vibrant acidity. Notes of dark chocolate, liquorice, and mineral nuances add to its complexity.
Finish: Exceptionally long and persistent, with lingering impressions of dark fruit and spice, underscored by refreshing acidity.
Try with chocolate-rich desserts, red berry tarts and strong
cheeses.
Decant carefully before serving, at a recommended temperature of 16ºC-18°C.
Once opened, the wine should be enjoyed within 1-2 days.
