Alpha Box & Dice Blood of Jupiter Sangiovese / Cabernet Sauvignon is made from grapes sourced from the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale wine growing regions of Australia. It is Alpha Box & Dice’s take on a Super Tuscan based on the original Super Tuscans that were quite often Sangiovese with various international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot added.
Alpha Box & Dice, as you can probably work out from the funky labels, is a modern collection of wines made by a Dylan and Justin Fairweather and winemaker Sam Berketa. The company was founded in McLaren Vale in 2008 with an unconventional approach to produce interesting and unusual wines with no ‘regional, varietal or stylistic’ boundaries, just great wines from great fruit.
Alpha Box & Dice Blood of Jupiter Sangiovese / Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of Sangiovese from Day Vineyards at Mt Crawford, Barossa Valley and Cabernet from Harnett Vineyard in McLaren Vale. Vines for the Sangiovese are planted on loam over sandstone soils whilst the Cabernet sits on black grey loam. The grapes are crushed and destemmed before being left to mature for 24 months in old and new barriques and puncheons. 20% new oak and about 20% puncheons. The wine is aged on lees for 18 months.
The blend is 79% Sangiovese and 21% Cabernet Sauvignon.
