Antinori Pian Delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is a single estate Tuscan red wine made by one of the most famous and oldest wine companies in Italy. It is only produced in the very best vintages.
Marchesi Antinori has been producing wine in Tuscany for six centuries. It was founded in 1385 when Giovanni di Piero Antinori became a member of the “Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri”, the Florentine Winemakers’ Guild. The company continues to go from strength to strength 26 generations later. Antinori is probably most famous for producing one of the original Super-Tuscan wines, Tignanello, and has estates throughout Italy (Peppoli in Chianti and Castello della Sala in Umbria) and the rest of the world, including Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in Napa Valley, USA.
The family’s Pian delle Vigne estate is located some three and a half miles southwest of the town of Montalcino itself in the Val d’Orcia. The estate was acquired by the Antinori family in 1995 and is named after the 19th-century railway station situated on the property. The first vintage of Pian Della Vigne Brunello, the 1995, was released in 2000. A Riserva wine called Vignaferrovia was launched in 2004.
The estate comprises 460 acres in total (184 hectares), 205 of which (83 hectares) are planted with vines. These are planted at an altitude of between 130 and 200 meters (440-660 feet) above sea level and with an exposure which is principally to the south-east. The soil consists primarily of clay, calcareous material and is rich in very fine gravel.
The philosophy behind Antinori Pian Delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino is to age the wine in large casks that preserve the exceptional integrity of the Sangiovese grape and impart the characteristic vibrant elegance of Brunello to the wine.

Antinori Pian Delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino is ruby red in color. The nose offers fragrant fresh aromas of blood oranges and plums that blend with balsamic notes and hints of vanilla. The refined palate is vibrant and defined by savoury tannins sustained by outstanding freshness. The finish is long and persistent, defined by fruity, spicy and vanilla aromas.
This wine pairs beautifully with rich, savoury dishes. Ideal food pairings would be grilled or roasted red meats like beef or lamb, game such as wild boar or duck, and hearty pasta dishes with meat ragù.
Earthy mushroom-based dishes like porcini risotto or polenta, as well as aged cheeses like Pecorino Toscano or Parmigiano-Reggiano are also good matches.
