Description

Berton Vineyard Winemakers Reserve Shiraz is a red wine produced from grapes grown in the Padthaway wine-growing sub-region of South Australia.

Berton Vineyards was established by Bob & Cherie Berton in May 1996 with 75 acres of land at 450m above sea level on gently rolling hills in a sub-region of Eden Valley in South Australia. In 2005 the decision was made to purchase a winery to process the 100 odd tonnes that was produced at the High Eden Vineyard. In 2005 when the former Southcorp winery in Yenda became available, Bob and Cherie joined with Jamie Bennett, Paul Bartholomaeus and James Ceccato to form Berton Vineyards the company. The winery was purchased and the guys moved to their new home in November 2005. This state of the art facility has the capacity to process 20,000 tonnes, and allows Berton Vineyards to produce value for money wines which sit alongside his premium single vineyard offerings.

The 2019 Berton Vineyard Winemakers Reserve Shiraz is a blend of Shiraz 92%, Cabernet Sauvignon 5% and Durif 3%. The fruit is sourced mainly from Padthaway with some Coonawarra fruit. The fruit is machine harvested at night when the temperature is cooler so that, when the fruit is transported tho the Yenda Winery, it arrives in good condition. The parcels of fruit were fermented in stainless steel vertical fermenters for 4-6 days between  26° and 30°. The wine was then bag pressed at 1 Baume and left to ferment until dry, then racked onto French oak for malolactic fermentation. The wine was then clarified via centrifuge into stainless steel storage. Finally the various parcels are assembled and blended for bottling.
