Description

Casa de Mouraz was established by Sara and António Ribeiro and is a small beacon of sustainability in the Dao wine-growing region where Antonio’s family have farmed for many generations. With passion and commitment, they’ve converted all of Antonio’s family 13 Ha vineyards to the biodynamic way over the past 8 years, their enthusiasm and energy now spreading to other growers in their area. This is the “gentle touch” approach to viticulture and winemaking. The estate is spread over several parcels with different soils (granite and clay) and altitudes ranging from 140 to 400 meters. The vineyards are planted with important indigenous grape varieties including  Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro, Jaen, Baga and Água-Santa for the red wines and Malvasia-Fina, Bical, Cerceal, Encruzado and Alvarinho for the whites.

Casa de Mouraz Tinto is a blend of grape varieties from various vineyard sites with granitic soils. The blend normally includes Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro, Jaen, Agua Santa, Tinta Pinheira and Baga. The grapes are co-fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tank, followed by a long maceration. 20% of the wine is aged for 8 months in used French oak barrels.

Casa de Mouraz gained Ecocert’s Organic certification in 1997 and, in 2009, they also became a member of the group of biodynamic wine producers Renaissance des Appellations / Return to Terroir which enjoys technical support by Vini Vitis Bio (France), Agridin / João Castella and Vines & Wines (Portugal).
