Chateau des Joualles is a 42 hectare estate located on the outskirts of the village of Ruch, in the Sauveterre de Guyenne district, at the very centre of the Bordeaux Appellation. It is bottled as a Bordeaux Superieur
Vignobles Freylon is headed by brothers Erick and Bruno Freylon: Erick is the winemaker and Bruno is the commercial manager. Chateau des Joualles was acquired by Vignobles Freylon in 1981 and they set about improving and renovating the property and installed a new modern winery. The family were the owners of a St Emilion Grand Cru, Chateau Lassegue, which was sold to American wine producers Kendall Jackson Vintners in the early 200s.
The family produce three wines at the estate, Grangeotte Freylon, La Fleur de Joualles and this wine Chateau des Joualles. Whilst the Grangeotte and La Fleur are both 60% Merlot / 40% Cabernet blends, Chateau de Joualles follows the vineyard planting and is a 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon blend. The grapes are sourced from vineyards with chalky clay / limestone soils. The winemaking is a mixture of traditional and modern. The winery is equipped with thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks which allows good control over maceration and fermentation. The wine sees some oak aging.
Annual production is around 250,000 bottles.
