Chateau Montlabert 2014 presented in 1.5 Litre magnums.
Chateau Montlabert is a St Emilion Grand Cru wine estate in Bordeaux acquired by the Famille Castel in autumn 2008. The Chateau is a stone mansion that dates from the 18th century and it is located on the Libourne road next to the plateau de Figeac. Its illustrious near neighbours include Chateau Cheval Blanc, Figeac and Clos des Jacobins. There are 12.5 hectares of vineyards planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that have an average age of 20 to 25 years old. The soils are sandy gravel with clay. The estate has been run according to the principles of Terra Vitis since the 2011 vintage.
There is careful management in the vineyard and, after harvest, there is optical sorting of the berries at the winery prior to vinification. The grapes are harvested by hand and each plot of vine is harvested separately. After sorting at the winery fermentation and maceration is performed in temperature controlled stainless steel and concrete. The cepage for the 2012 is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc and wine was aged for 14 months, 50% in new French oak barrels and 50% in second fill French oak barrels. An average of 38,000 bottles are made per vintage.
The consultant winemaker at Chateau Montlabert is Hubert de Bouärd de Laforest.
