Chateau Tour de Luchey is a red wine from Bordeaux. It is bottled as a Bordeaux AC and is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
This wine is produced by EARL Massé Henri et Fils. With a rich history and a commitment to tradition, this family-owned estate has been producing exceptional wine for five generations. It is located in the commune of Moulon in the “lieu-dit” of Luchey on the banks of the Dordogne River opposite the wine-growing appellation of Saint-Emilion. The property included a medieval tower after which this wine was named. The name Luchey refers to the the king’s bailiff and, at this location, the bailiff would inspect the cargo of boats leaving for the French king via Bordeaux.
The vineyards of Chateau Tour de Luchey are planted with 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon covering some 16.31 hectares. The alluvial soils provide a perfect environment for the vines, which benefit from a vine density of around 4,500 vines per hectare and an average vine age of over 40 years. In the vineyard, careful vineyard management includes shoot thinning, bud removal, mechanical leaf removal, and green harvest. Harvest is mechanical. Upon arrival at the winery, the fruit undergoes rigorous grape sorting to guarantee only the best berries are used in the winemaking process.
Chateau Tour de Luchey is vinified using traditional techniques in stainless steel and thermo-regulated cement vats. Each grape variety is harvested and vinified separately, allowing for more control over the blending process. The grapes undergo a maceration lasts between 12 and 15 days. Following maceration, the wine is pressed using a vertical hydraulic press, which gently extracts the juice while preserving the delicate, fruity flavours and aromas. The wine is matured in stainless steel prior to bottling.
This is a soft, fruity and easy-drinking Claret and the wine’s approachable style makes it an ideal choice for everyday drinking.
Chateau Tour de Luchey is a well-balanced and charming red wine. There are aromas reminiscent of cherry, raspberry and blackcurrant with nuances of fine herbs. The palate has ripe and well-softened tannins with a beautiful freshness. Good finish with hints of cherry stone.
Can be served lightly chilled, particularly in the summer months.
This red Bordeaux wine pairs well with various dishes. Enjoy with red meat, grilled steaks or lamb chops, hearty stews or grilled poultry. It will also work well with mushroom dishes like mushroom risotto.
For the cheeseboard, try with mature hard cheeses like Cheddar, Gouda or Comte.
