Description

Christian Moueix Othello is a red wine blend produced from grapes grown in the Napa Valley. It is a Bordeaux style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Christian Moueix is a French winemaker has been the president of the négociant house Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix since 1991. Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix is know for their top Bordeaux estates including Châteaux Bélair-Monange, La Fleur-Pétrus and Trotanoy et al. Meanwhile Christian Moueix is also know for his work in the Napa where he founded Dominus Estate in 1983.

The Dominus Estate is located in Yountville, California, was established in 1983 by Christian Moueix. It is situated on the famed Napanook vineyard, it was, in the 1940’s and 1950’s, the source of fruit for some of the finest Napa Valley wines. As well as the flagship Dominus, the 42 hectare estate also produces Napanook and this wine, Othello. Othello is a wine that expresses the singularity of its exceptional terroir and is accessible and enjoyable in its youth. A Bordeaux blend, the wine is forthcoming with lovely aromas of red fruit, round, silky tannins and an abounding brightness.

The Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot are harvested from the 103 acres of vineyard which are planted on gravelly and clay loam soils. The vineyards are dry farmed with no irrigation. The grapes are picked by hand, the sunny side of the vines picked a few days before the shady side. The grapes are also manually and optically sorted. The wine undergoes a gentle pump-overs and extraction and is matured in French oak barrels. The blend is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot.

In 2021, Dominus Estate received its CCOF («California Certified Organic Farmers») certification for organic farming practices.

Tasting Notes

Moueix Othello displays a complex bouquet of ripe black fruits, such as blackberries and plums, intertwined with elegant notes of vanilla, toasted oak, and a subtle hint of spice. On the palate, the Othello reveals its true character with a velvety texture and well-integrated tannins. The black fruit flavors persist, accompanied by a touch of dark chocolate and a hint of espresso, adding depth and complexity to the wine. There is a seamless balance between fruit, oak, and acidity. The finish is long and lingering.

Food Pairing

Pair this remarkable wine with grilled ribeye steak, roasted lamb, or a hearty mushroom risotto to complement its depth and complexity.
