Corryton Burge Kin The Brigadier Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon is an Australian red wine made from grapes grown in the Barossa wine-growing region. This is part of their “Kin” range which honours the families roots and members that have gone before. The Brigadier is named after Trent and Amelia’s father Grant Burge who led the industry in determining the ideal Barossan microclimate for Cabernet Sauvignon.
Corryton Burge takes it name from the family’s historical property, Corryton Park Homestead, which was built in 1845. It is located in the gentle hills of the the Eden Valley wine-growing region to the north of Adelaide. The Eden Valley is bounded by the Barossa Valley wine region to the west and the Adelaide Hills wine region to the south. The estate is run by sixth generation winemakers, and siblings, Trent and Amelia Burge. Both Trent and Amelia are heavily involved in running the estate. Trent is in charge of all departments and day to day operations and Amelia is involved with wine marketing and as a member of the board of management. They also both have their own wine projects: Barossa Boy Wines and Amelia Burge Wines.
The name Burge will be familiar to most Australian wine lovers; Trent’s father is Barossa Valley wine-making legend Grant Burge. When Grant Burge sold Grant Burge brand, they retained all the real estate. The grapes are source from the Burge family’s 300 hectares of vines in southern and central Barossa and Adelaide Hills with a network of twenty growers further afield in non-Barossa regions. The wines are made at the family’s Illaparra winery by the talented winemaking team of Matthew Pellew, Andrew Cockram and Trent Burge. There are three ranges of wines: the Kith, Kin and Her Majesty’s Theatre.
The grapes for the Corryton Burge Kin The Brigadier Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon are sourced from Burge’s family owned Corryton Burge vineyard in the Eden Valley where the cool microclimate is ideal for growing premium Cabernet Sauvignon. After completing malolactic fermentation in barrel the wine then remained in oak for a total of 22 months. 100% French oak, 25% of which was new.
The wine labels feature a logo of the fabled griffin. The gates of the Corryton Park Homestead are protected by a pair of statues of the mythical griffin.
Suitable for vegetarians.
Vibrant blackfruit and cassis aromas are layered with hints of spice, chocolate and leather. Refined dark berry and cassis flavours give way to a rich creamy mid palate and fine tannins.
Pair with roasted leg of lamb wrapped in rosemary with twice cooked potatoes and an ancient grain salad.
