Description

Domaine du Changeon Bourgueil Les Compagnons is a characterful Cabernet Franc from one of the Loire’s most reliable red wine appellations. Sourced from the area’s distinctive tuffeau soils, this is a medium-bodied red with the hallmark freshness of the region. Think red fruits, a touch of earthiness and that signature Loire graphite note. Unpretentious, food-friendly and perfect served slightly chilled in the summer months. In France, they sometimes call this easy-drinking style of wine a “Vin de Copains”, perfect for impromptu aperitifs or dinners with friends.

Domaine du Changeon

Domaine du Changeon is a new winery established by David Ledoux in the heart of the Bourgueil wine-growing appellation. Ledoux had previously worked for 20 years as an engineer in the automotive industry. His real love was wine and, inspired by his grandfather, who had owned vineyards, he went to work at Domaine du Changeon, which was then known by its old name, Bruno Dufeu. An opportunity soon arose to buy the domaine, and Ledoux was able to purchase the property and start his own winery.

Located In The Touraine Region

Located in the heart of the magnificent Touraine region at Benais, the domaine has 12 hectares of vineyards, 11 hectares of Cabernet Franc and half a hectare each of Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc. The vineyards are planted on clay and limestone (known locally as tuffeau) soils. As well as Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc, Bourgueil Rouge and Rosé, the estate also produces a Cremant de Loire.

Why Is It Named Domaine du Changeon?

The estate is named Domaine du Changeon after the river Changeon, which flows near the estate and was used to power watermills in Bourgueil and represents Ledoux’s new direction into winemaking.

What is Bourgueil Wine?

The Bourgueil Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) is a French wine appellation located in the Loire Valley, in the region of Touraine. It was created in 1937. The main production is red wine made from the Cabernet Franc grape variety. Bourgueil wines are known for their elegance, complexity and ability to age well.

Tasting Notes

Domaine du Changeon Bourgueil Les Compagnons has aromas of berry fruits and raspberry. The palate is round with fresh red fruits and tart candy notes finishing on a delicious cherry note. Fresh and vibrant with a lovely refreshing acidity.

Food Pairing

A great wine for summer drinking. Ideal with roast chicken, barbequed lamb or grilled artichokes. Try with herbaceous salads, or lentils. For a more unusual choice, try with, or poured over, strawberries.

It is also good with goats cheese, Feta, Pecorino or young sheep cheeses.
