Description

Domaine Jones Vineyard Collection Grenache Noir is a French red wine made by Katie Jones from her old vine “Le Rebouls” vineyard in Tuchan in the Languedoc-Roussillon winegrowing region. Made exclusively from Grenache Noir, this medium-bodied red wine showcases vibrant, lively fruit with pure notes of strawberries and raspberries, and a silky texture, accented by a subtle hints of garrigue.

Domaine Jones Vineyard Collection Grenache Noir

The grapes for Domaine Jones Vineyard Collection Grenache Noir are sourced from Katie’s home village of Tuchan. As mentioned, it comes from the “Les Rebouls” vineyard, which Katie calls the “La Terre Rouge” vineyard due to its dark red soils.

This Grenache Noir showcases the Jones’ dedication to old vines (“vieilles vignes”), low yields, dry farming, and hand-harvesting, which capture the authentic varietal character and site-specific purity. As an aside, this

Domaine Jones, Old Vine Specialist

Domaine Jones is owned and operated by Katie Jones, a passionate winemaker with deep roots in the Languedoc region. Before establishing her vineyard, Katie spent nearly two decades as Sales and Marketing Director for the Mont Tauch co-operative.

Her journey took a transformative turn in 2007 when she fell in love with a small, 3.5-hectare vineyard in the Maury Valley. In 2008, she acquired this vineyard, known as La Sanayre Est, nestled in the shadow of the historic Queribus Castle. Surrounded by wild scrubland, or garrigue, the vineyard boasts over 8,000 vines planted on slopes of black schist. The vines planted here include Carignan, Grenache Noir, Grenache Gris, and Muscat.

Traditional Viticulture Meets Innovative Winemaking

Katie’s inaugural three wines from Domaine Jones were a Jones Red, a Jones White (made from Grenache Gris), and a Fitou. These have now been joined by various other wines, and her ever-changing range now includes a rosé wine, many different red and white wines, as well as a Macabeu orange wine. The wine-making philosophy at Domaine Jones is to employ traditional, down-to-earth farming methods and innovative winemaking techniques to capture the characteristics of the terroir and the local area.

Collecting Old Vines & Adopt an Old Vine!

Katie has a deep appreciation for old vines and has been steadily acquiring small, ancient vineyards near Tuchan whenever possible. She is a proud member of The Old Vine Conference and runs a popular “Adopt an Old Vine” initiative through her website. Many of these vineyards are home to low-yielding vines that are up to 100 years old. These old plots often feature a mix of grape varieties co-planted in the same vineyard, a traditional practice from the early 20th century.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Deep, vibrant ruby-red colour

Nose: Aromas of pure, ripe red fruit, juicy strawberries and raspberries with classic Grenache liqueur-like cherry notes that are perfumed and expressive. There’s a garrigue-inspired hint of wilderness, think faint herbal scrub and earthy undertones, which adds depth and complexity.

Palate: Medium-bodied yet generous palate. It delivers ripe, fleshy fruit with perfumed wild cherry and berry flavours. Silky and approachable, balanced by a fine streak of tannin that provides structure without overpowering the juicy core. Fresh acidity keeps it lively and prevents any heaviness, while the finish lingers with delicious varietal purity. A ripe, elegant, concentrated and drinkable red wine.

Food Pairing

This wine is perfect with grilled sausages, thyme-roasted lamb chops, medium-spiced curries, crusty steak pie, or crispy duck – dishes that complement its juicy fruit and subtle spice.

To enjoy this wine at its best, serve it slightly cooler than room temperature (around 16°C). This highlights the vibrant strawberry and raspberry fruit while keeping the “garrigue” spice fresh and balanced.

FAQs

What grape variety is this wine made from?

100% Grenache Noir (red Grenache grapes), sourced from old, low-yielding vines.

Why is this labelled as Grenache Noir?

You might find that red wines made from red Grenache grapes are normally just labelled as Grenache. However, Katie also makes a white wine from Grenache Gris – it is to clearly differentiate the two wines.

Where is the wine produced?

In the Tuchan area of the Côtes Catalanes (Languedoc-Roussillon, southern France), specifically from the Rebouls vineyard (also known as La Terre Rouge due to its distinctive dark red soil). The wine is bottled as a “Vin de France”.

Is this wine organic?

It is not organically certified. However, Domaine Jones practices organic methods, with a focus on sustainable, low-intervention winemaking.
