Description

Morgon Domaine du Puits Beni is a Beaujolais, made with 100% Gamay grapes, produced wine co-operative called La Cave des Grands Vins de Fleurie.

La Cave des Grands Vins de Fleurie was founded in 1927, largely by the women of Fleurie, who had become used to working together, during and after WW1, when many of the men from the region were fighting and many would not return. Today the co-op is one of the largest producers Fleurie AC (as well as Brouilly, Chirouble, Morgon, Moulin A Vent, Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages) and has 330 member-winegrowers with over 350 hectares of vineyards.

100% Gamay grapes from the Morgon appellation. Unlike some of the Cave de Fleurie’s other wines, the grapes for this wine come from a single domaine, Domaine du Puits Beni. The soils here are decomposed, schistous granite. Wines from Morgon are some of the fuller bodied wines from Beaujolais (along with Moulin a Vent, Chenas and Julienas) and the wines are generally the deepest colour and most rich Cru Beaujolais.

Tasting Notes

Morgon Domaine du Puits Beni is a dark, cherry red colour. This Gamay is characterised by black fruit character with aromas of blackberries and blackcurrants and a hint of spice. This is a soft and well-balanced wine with lovely acidity and silky tannins.
