Description

Louis Jadot Moulin A Vent Clos de Rochegrés is a single, 8 hectare, vineyard and is part of Jadot’s Chateau des Jacques Beaujolais estate. Clos de Rochegrès is an 9ha vineyard, renowned for producing wines of great weight and character, that are capable of ageing and maturing over 10 years.

Louis Jadot is one of the largest and most famous wine producers and negociants in the Burgundy wine-growing region. The origins of the company date back to 1859 when the business was founded by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. Over time the company has acquired plots of vines is some of the most prestigious vineyards in the region including Beaune Clos des Ursules, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Savigny Les Beaune and many more. As well as Burgundy, they also own vineyards in Beaujolais at Chateau des Jacques and at Domaine Ferret in Pouilly Fuisse.

Maison Louis Jadot bought Château des Jacques in 1996. It is situated in Moulin à Vent, between Fleurie and Chenas, and has a 27 ha vineyards of ‘Moulin à Vent’. The 5 ‘Clos’ cover an average of 19.5 hectares. Moulin à Vent is often referred to as the “King of Beaujolais”, and is considered to be the most Burgundian Cru of Beaujolais. The geological origin and soil composition are quite different from the Côte d’Or, which is why Beaujolais red wines are made only from Gamay grapes. The soil is quite light, made up of sand and a little bit of clay, lying on a bedrock high in manganese, that gives the wine its deep colour.

Louis Jadot Moulin à Vent “Clos de Rochegrès” is a special “cuvée” from old vines. The wine is vinified in closed vats with pumping over, and then aged in oak barrels for 12 months. One part of the grapes is de-stemmed. The wine is made in the traditional Burgundian way and is aged in oak casks from Alliers, Limousin and Nivernais prior to bottling.

Tasting Notes

This wine is opulent and generous, but always very fresh. Rochegrès is one of the best Moulin à Vent selections.
