This is beautifully complemented by traditional old-vine Carignane, Petite Sirah, Mataro, and Alicante Bouschet; the 2024 vintage offers a wonderful balance of vibrant fruit and heritage craftsmanship.

• 67% Zinfandel
• 17% Carignane
• 8% Petit Syrah
• 5% Alicante Bouschet
• 3% Mataro

Zinfandel dominates the blend, whilst the old-vine Carignane (Carignan) contributes bright fruit and acidity. Petite Sirah lends spice, depth of colour, and firm tannins.

Winemaking

• Hand-Harvested: grapes are carefully picked by hand to ensure only the highest quality grapes make it from the vineyard to the cellar.
• Native Yeast Fermentation: the grapes are fermented using native yeasts at both the historic Monte Bello and Lytton Springs facilities; this allows the authentic character of the grapes and terroir to shine through.
• Careful Oak Maturation: the wine is matured for 12 months in air-dried American oak barrels, imparting subtle complexity and structure while respecting the fruit.
• Minimal-Intervention Philosophy: Crafted in true Ridge style with minimal intervention to preserve absolute purity, depth, and a beautifully balanced natural acidity.

History of Ridge Vineyards

Ridge Vineyards can trace its origins back to 1885, when Dr Osea Perrone, an Italian immigrant physician, planted vines high on the Monte Bello Ridge and established the estate. Decades later, in 1959, four engineers from the Stanford Research Institute revived the historic property, laying the groundwork for the Ridge as we know it today. Famous milestone releases soon followed, including their inaugural Monte Bello Cabernet blend in 1962 and the estate’s first Zinfandel in 1964. The 1971 Monte Bello would earn global acclaim at the 1976 Judgment of Paris.

The appointment of winemaker Paul Draper in 1969 proved foundational. Through a steadfast commitment to classical winemaking and minimal intervention over nearly 50 years, Draper shaped the benchmark style that defines the winery today.

Following the company’s acquisition by Otsuka U.S. in 1987, Ridge Vineyards has maintained a steady focus on estate-grown wines across its winemaking facilities at Monte Bello and Lytton Springs. The portfolio’s crown jewel is the Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon, a celebrated mountain-grown field blend reflecting the unique limestone terroir of the Santa Cruz Mountains.

At the same time, Ridge is famous for their Zinfandel-dominated red wine blends, which make up the core of production. Through historic, old-vine sites such as Geyserville, Lytton Springs, and York Creek, Ridge continues to showcase the remarkable complexity, structure, and ageing potential of California’s heritage vines.
