Description

Vine Mind Shiraz Malbec is a part of a new project from two of the creators of Some Young Punks (Naked on Roller Skates, Passion Has Red Lips, The Squids Fist et al.) Colin McBride And Jen Gardner. As well as Some Young Punks, which is a more collaborative project using grapes from various regions and growers, they also have a winery in the Clare Valley called Adelina Wines. This is a small vineyard and winery located in the Springfarm sub-region of Clare, set amongst one of the most historically relevant winery and vineyards in Australia. They have plantings of well-established Shiraz, Grenache and Pedro Ximenez and new plantings of Shiraz and Mataro. Other grapes come from a very small group of growers in Clare and the Adelaide Hills.

The Vine Mind range is based purely on 100% Clare Valley fruit. The Punks work with  Viticulturist Dylan Grigg to better understand the vineyard and provide an educational standpoint. As well as the Vine Mind Shiraz Malbec, there is also a Rhinehessen inspired Riesling.

The grapes for the Vine Mind Shiraz Malbec are sourced from right next door to the famed vineyards of Wendouree, one of the jewels of Australian wine and Aberfeldy. The grapes are hand harvested, the fermentation is in concrete vats (with a shorter time than usual on the skins) and the wine is then aged in a combinations of neutral (old and used) oak and concrete. The idea behind this wine is to produce a a classic, punchy style of wine typical of the Clare Valley.
