Description

La Gitana Manzanilla is an iconic Manzanilla Sherry brand. The La Gitana brand is owned by Bodegas Hildalgo (founded in 1792) who also make some fantastic Spanish Brandy including the fantastic Hidalgo 200 Solera Gran Reserva Brandy de Jerez. Manzanilla is essentially a Fino Sherry but, instead being made and aged in the town of Jerez, it is made and aged in the coastal town of Sanlucar de Barrameda which, along with Puerto de Santa Maria makes up the three towns of the “Sherry Triangle”. The coastal influence, the cooling breezes and salty maritime character, mean that Manzanilla has a slighty different character from Sherries made in Jerez. It is made in exactly the same way as other Fino Sherries, from 100% Palomino grapes grown on the bright Albariza soils surrounding the town of Sanlucar de Barrameda. Manzanilla La Gitana is characterised by a slight salty tang which makes it an ideal food / wine match for all sorts of dishes.
