Hambledon Vineyard Classic Cuvée Brut Magnum 1.5 Litre showcases England’s oldest commercial vineyard’s flagship sparkling wine in an impressive large-format bottle. Crafted using the traditional method from the classic Champagne grape varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, this large-format bottle offers all the elegance and complexity of Hambledon’s award-winning sparkling wine with the added benefits that come from ageing in a larger bottle.
Perfect for celebrations, weddings, anniversaries, corporate events and special occasions, the 1.5 litre magnum provides approximately twice the volume of a standard 75cl bottle whilst delivering enhanced freshness, slower maturation and exceptional ageing potential.
Produced in the chalk-rich soils of Hampshire, Hambledon Vineyard Classic Cuvée Brut reflects the unique terroir of Southern England. Benefiting from a cool climate and geology similar to Champagne’s, Hambledon has established itself as one of the leading names in premium English sparkling wine.
Hambledon Vineyard Classic Cuvée Brut Winemaking
Grapes are hand-picked and undergo a double selection for quality, once in the vineyard, and once before pressing
Pressing occurs at the only gravity-fed, state-of-the-art winery, allowing for wines to be made with minimal intervention
The blend is 52% Chardonnay, 32% Pinot Noir, and 17% Pinot Meunier
The wine is a blend of two vintages
A small percentage of the reserve wines are barrel-fermented in small French oak barrels to add extra complexity
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats
The wine is then left to settle for 6 months before blending with the reserve wines and bottling
Aged for a minimum of 35 months on lees in cellars dug into the chalk downs
As England’s oldest commercial vineyard, Hambledon Vineyard has been rewriting the rules of English winemaking since 1952. Founded by trailblazer Major General Sir Guy Salisbury-Jones, the estate took a massive leap forward in 1999 when Ian Kellett took the helm.
Spotting the immense potential for English Sparkling Wine, Kellett headed to Plumpton College to study winemaking. By 2005, he launched an ambitious 10-acre experimental plot, testing 27 combinations of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier clones and rootstocks to find the perfect formula for the estate’s unique soils.
Today, Hambledon’s pedigree is undeniable. In 2023, the estate was acquired by a consortium of Berry Bros. & Rudd (the UK’s oldest wine merchant) and Symington Family Estates (the global port giants behind Cockburn’s and Dow’s) – solidifying Hambledon’s place at the absolute pinnacle of English sparkling wine.
Magnums of wine are prized by collectors for their slower oxygen-to-wine ratio, which preserves freshness and enhances complexity over time, while also creating a striking sense of occasion as a centrepiece, celebration standout, or memorable gift. Ideal for weddings, birthdays, Christmas, or garden parties, the Hambledon Classic Cuvée Brut Magnum delivers a premium English sparkling wine experience.
Hambledon Vineyard Classic Cuvee Brut is also available in 37.5 cl half-bottles and 75cl bottles.
Hambledon Vineyard Classic Cuvee Brut has aromas of fresh sourdough, magnolia and lily scents which mingle with a hint of smoke over a core of greengage, red plums and dessert apples. The Palate is vivid, almost vibrantly crunchy with precise, structured yet ripe acidity. It is linear, dense and long with momentum and power that bodes well for the future. This wine has energy and latent tension that will unfold to reveal layers of floral and stone fruit aromas and a rich palate with great length.
A perfect aperitif but also an ideal match to fresh seafood such as oysters, scallops, sushi or smoked salmon with asparagus. Best served between 10 and 12°C.
