Peller Estates Ice Cuvée Rosé is a fantastic off-dry Canadian sparkling rosé wine made from hand-picked Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Gamay and Pinot Meunier grapes. It is made in the traditional method with a secondary fermentation in the bottle. This and the sparkling white Ice Cuvée are available to buy now from Fareham Wine Cellar.
Peller Estates and the Peller family have been making wine in Niagara Peninsula for 3 generations, and are widely regarded as one of the highest quality and most innovative Canadian wine producers. They are famed for their sweet and luscious Icewines but also produce a range of still and sparkling wines.
Peller Estates was founded by Hungarian immigrant Andrew Peller who arrived in Canada in 1927. He would go on to plant his first vineyards in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, with the aim of bringing some European wine culture to Canada. By 1951 he had opened wineries in British Columbia, Ontario and Nova Scotia. His son Joe joined him from a career in medicine in 1966, and John, Andrew’s grandson, who currently heads the business, joined in 1989.
The Peller Estates winemaker is Katie Dickinson who began her wine-making career at Peller 2006. Katie left Peller to travel and make vintages around the world, including New Zealand and France, before returning to Peller as winemaker in 2012.
Peller Estate’s sparkling wines are made using the traditional “méthode” and they are bottled as Niagara Peninsula VQA (Vintners Quality Alliance). VQA is the Canadian equivalent of the French AOC and guarantees the high quality and authenticity of origin of Canadian wines made under that system in British Columbia and Ontario.
Peller Estates Ice Cuvée Rosé is a traditional ‘méthode’ sparkling wine made with hand-picked, whole-cluster pressed and fractioned grapes. The base wine assemblage consists of Pinot Noir (59%), Chardonnay (29%), Gamay Noir (8%), and Pinot Meunier (4%), all aged in stainless steel just before tirage. After 12 to 14 months on lees the wine is disgorged, and a 90ml dosage of Vidal Icewine is added.
This off-dry sparkling rosé is enhanced by the burst of flavour from the Vidal Icewine and the bright berry character of the Gamay Noir producing a wine of unique style and finesse.
Pell Estates Ice Cuvée Rosé is suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
Peller Estates Ice Cuvée Rosé Sparkling has very fine bubbles which rise gently against a delicate pink backdrop. It has a lovely, clean, fresh bouquet of apricot, wild raspberry, melon and cherry. Medium-bodied and flavourful. This dry-ish sparkling wine has an up-front creamy mouthfeel with an elegant mousse, and flavours of raspberry and juicy white peach. The refreshingly crisp finish shows exciting notes of cranberry and white currant.
Enjoy alongside soft, creamy cheeses, such as Brie or Camembert, with crusty bread.
It pairs well with fish and seafood like fried calamari, sushi rolls; mussels in broth, crispy fish patties, grilled salmon and sautéed scallops.
It will also work well with white meats, try with roast port, spiced pork loin and roasted chicken to turkey.
Try alongside dessert with berries like a classic English Summer Pudding.
