Description

Dr Loosen “Dr Lo” Sparkling Riesling Alcohol-Removed Wine is a premium non-alcoholic sparkling wine from Germany. It is made with 100% Riesling from the Mosel and is an elegant alcohol free alternative to Champagne or sparkling wine. The perfect fizz for a celebration or special occasion for those seeking a lower-alcohol alternative without compromising on flavour.

How Is Dr Loosen “Dr Lo” Sparkling Riesling Alcohol-Removed Wine Made?

It Starts With High Quality Grapes

This alcohol-free Sparkling Riesling from Germany is first produced in the same way that Loosen produces their regular wine, using high-quality Mosel grapes. The base wine is naturally low in alcohol, with bright acidity and the grape’s natural sweetness; no sugar is added.

The alcohol is then gently removed using vacuum distillation, a modern process that operates at low temperatures to preserve the wine’s delicate aromas and fresh fruit character. Because the wine already retains its natural sweetness, there is no need to add grape must after dealcoholisation. Finally, the wine is carbonated to add the refreshing sparkle.

Dr Loosen “Dr Lo” Sparkling Riesling Vinification

  • 100% Riesling grapes

  • Vinification in stainless steel tanks

  • Fermentation stopped early to retain natural grape sugars

  • Alcohol removed via vacuum distillation

  • The dealcoholized wine is then carbonated to create a sparkling, non-alcoholic wine

Why Should I Buy Sparkling Non-Alcoholic Wine?

Whether you’re raising a toast at a celebration, marking a special occasion, or simply want the elegance of sparkling wine without the alcohol, Dr Loosen “Dr Lo” Sparkling Riesling offers all the sophistication of a traditional fizz – the aromas, the bubbles, the occasion – without the next-day regret.

Made from real Mosel Riesling, it’s a genuine alcohol-free alternative to Champagne or Prosecco, with the fruit, acidity and celebratory feel you’d expect from a quality sparkling wine. It is lower in calories than traditional fizz, too!

Made by Winemaking Legend Dr Ernst Loosen

When Ernst Loosen inherited the family estate in 1988, he took charge of one of the Mosel’s most historic wineries, a property that had been in the Loosen family for more than two centuries.

Ernst recognised that the estate’s ancient ungrafted vines, many over 60 years old and rooted in some of Germany’s finest vineyard sites, were capable of producing world-class wine. To unlock that potential, he reduced yields, moved away from chemical fertilisers, and adopted a minimal-intervention approach in the cellar, letting the vines and the terroir do the talking.

Dr Loosen is consistently ranked among the top ten wine estates in Germany, alongside such renowned producers as J.J. Prüm, Fritz Haag, Egon Müller, Robert Weil and Hermann Dönnhoff.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Pale straw with a lively, persistent stream of fine bubbles.
  • Nose: Fresh and aromatic, with characteristic Mosel Riesling notes of white peach, green apple, and citrus blossom. A delicate floral lift, think jasmine and honeysuckle, with a faint mineral, almost slaty undertone typical of the region.
  • Palate: Light-bodied and refreshing, with natural off-dry sweetness balanced by bright, zippy acidity. The carbonation adds a pleasing vibrancy and lifts the fruit. Flavours of ripe pear, apricot, and a squeeze of lime carry through, with no hollow or artificial character that can sometimes betray alcohol-removed wines.
  • Finish: Off-dry, clean, crisp and pleasantly lingering, with a citrus zest note on the close.

Food Pairing

At its best alongside light, fresh flavours, this lively Mosel sparkling Riesling is a natural partner for sushi, prawn tempura, Thai curry, soft cheeses, and delicate canapés.

Serve well chilled as an elegant aperitif, or bring it to the table with Asian-spiced dishes and fresh fruit desserts
