Description

Louis Latour Saint Veran Les Deux Moulins takes its name from the two watermills that straddle the La Petite Grosne river. The rain that falls on the vineyards filters through the calcareous bedrock to help feed the river as it flows away west towards the famous monastic town of Cluny.

Maison Louis Latour, Since 1797

The Latour family have long been established in Burgundy’s wine trade. They began as vinegrowers in the village of Aloxe-Corton as early as 1768 and went on to establish today’s business, Maison Louis Latour, in 1797. Today, they are one of the region’s most famous names, creating wines from their own 50-hectare domaine in the Côte d’Or and grapes and wines purchased through the negociant arm of the business.

The company remains in family ownership, and Eléonore Latour, the 12th generation member of the Latour family, is the first female member of the family to join the business. Eléonore is the vice president and is ably supported by head winemaker Jean Charles Thomas and domaine director Christophe Deola. Although they are most famous for their Burgundy wines, Maison Louis Latour has vineyards in many other areas of France including Beaujolais, Ardeche – Coteaux de L’Ardeche and Var – Coteaux de Verdon.

The Saint-Véran Appellation

Saint Véran is situated in the very South of the Mâconnais. The Saint-Véran vineyards form a belt around Pouilly-Fuissé. The two are similar in terms of relief and production techniques, even in their actual taste and fragrance. The area’s Jurassic chalk soil and the vineyard’s ideal exposure combine perfectly to produce top-quality fruit.

Tasting Notes

Louis Latour Saint-Véran “Les Deux Moulins” 2022 has a brilliant pale yellow colour. Its nose reveals notes of linden and honeysuckle, which are reinforced in the mouth and accompanied by aromas of fresh almond. Nice mineral finish.

Food Pairing

Try with a lighter risotto or cheeses like Bleu de Bresse and Beaufort.
