Virgen del Galir Regueirón Godello is a Galician white wine sourced from a tiny, single-vineyard plot in the village of Éntoma. This limited-production Godello is fermented and aged in 500-litre oak barrels and foudres, delivering striking minerality, vibrant citrus, white peach, and a Chablis-like flinty elegance wrapped in creamy texture and bright acidity. A true expression of Galicia’s rugged terroir, it is now available to buy at Fareham Wine Cellar.
The terraced Regueirón vineyard consists of 0.42 hectares of vines in the easternmost area of Valdeorras. It enjoys an exceptional south and southeast orientation with a steep 40% slope, delivering excellent sun exposure and natural aeration. Planted on deep clay-slate soils, the vines benefit from the slow erosional breakdown of slate, which continuously releases vital minerals and nutrients to the roots.
This unique terroir allows the Godello grapes to ripen earlier while retaining vibrant, refreshing acidity, imparting a distinct Atlantic freshness and minerality to the wine. The vineyard is farmed sustainably, respecting both the land and the rugged character of Valdeorras. The winery considers this a Grand Cru.
The Virgen del Galir winery is located in the Valdeorras region of Galicia, a region famous for white wines made from Godello and red wines made from Mencia. It was founded in 2002 and acquired by Compañía Vinicola del Norte de España, better known as CVNE, in 2018.
The winery is located in a small village called Orense in Etoma in the valley of the Galir River in northwest Spain. The famous pilgrimage route of the “Camino de Santiago” passes through this village. The estate consists of 40 hectares of vineyards in the towns of Éntoma, where the Regueirón vineyard is located and Las Ermitas, with another 20 hectares being planted.
Godello is one of Spain’s most distinctive and high-quality white grape varieties. Grown primarily in Valdeorras (Galicia), it is prized for its crisp acidity, balanced structure, elegant minerality, and versatility with food.
Pale straw yellow in colour with attractive greenish reflections. On the nose, it offers an intense yet delicate and complex bouquet of white flowers, wet stone minerals, and fresh herbal nuances. The palate is vibrant and fresh, with excellent balance, vibrant acidity, and a long, persistent finish.
Virgen del Galir Regueirón Godello pairs beautifully with fresh seafood, particularly grilled octopus, razor clams, or oysters. Its vibrant acidity and mineral character also complement creamy cheeses, risotto with lemon and herbs, or roasted chicken with a touch of garlic and thyme.
