Torres Pazo das Bruxas Albarino is a Galician wine venture by the Torres Family, the world-famous Spanish wine producer.
Familia Torres Wines has been making wine in the ancient Catalán town of Vilafranca del Penedès, southwest of Barcelona, since the 17th Century. It is this tradition combined with innovation, dynamism and commitment to quality that has put Torres firmly on the world map. They remain one of the largest family-owned and run wine companies in the world (there is also Miguel Torres Chile and Marimar Torres in California) and, under the stewardship of fourth-generation Miguel Torres they are committed to sustainable viticulture and green practices. Today Torres not only have vineyards in their home region of Penedes, but all over Spain in regions such as Priorat, Rioja and Rueda. In 2006 Torres was awarded European Winery of the Year in Wine Enthusiast’s Annual Wine Star Awards. The Torres family is also one of the founding members of Primum Familiae Vini.
Torres Pazo das Bruxas Albarino is produced at the historic Torre Penelas estate, which the family acquired in 2012. The estate is situated in the municipality of Portas, near Pontevedra, and comprises a walled vineyard and a small winery, some of which dates back to the 14th or 15th century. Two wines are produced: the Pazo das Bruxas and the Blanco Granito, the first wine to be fermented and aged in Galician granite.
The Rías Baixas DO comprises five sub-regions: O Rosal, Condado de Tea, Soutomaior, Val do Salnés, and Ribeira do Ulla. The grapes used to produce Torres Pazo das Bruxas Albariño are sourced from the Val do Salnés sub-region. The Rías Baixas region is known for its Atlantic-influenced climate, featuring mild winters and high precipitation. However, it is also partially sheltered by the Azores, resulting in mild summers with little rainfall. The soils of the Val do Salnés sub-region are characterized by well-draining, sandy alluvial and rocky compositions.
After harvest, the grapes are left on the skins for two days of skin contact followed by vinification in stainless steel.
Torres Pazo das Bruxas Albarino is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Pazo das Bruxas has a brilliant golden colour. The nose is fragrant, with exquisitely delicate floral (acacia) and fruit (lemon marmalade) notes against a vegetative (fennel) backdrop. Intense and fresh on the palate, with delicate fruit acidity.
Torres Pazo das Bruxas Albarino makes a superb aperitif.
It pairs well with raw, cooked or grilled seafood as well as mild, white fish.
For the cheese board, match with soft goats cheeses.
