Château Les Hauts Conseillants 2018 is an exceptional Lalande-de-Pomerol red wine, offering timeless Right Bank Merlot elegance alongside rich, supple complexity. Showcasing intense dark plum, black cherry, and subtle spiced oak notes from a stellar Bordeaux vintage, this refined Lalande-de-Pomerol delivers outstanding depth and silky tannins with every pour.
Situated on the Right Bank of the Gironde, Lalande-de-Pomerol lies just north of Pomerol and east of Saint-Émilion. As a satellite village of Pomerol, it is celebrated for crafting exceptional red wines that deliver much of Pomerol’s silkiness and grandeur at a far more accessible price point. Within this respected appellation, Château Les Hauts Conseillants stands out as one of its most highly acclaimed estates.
Château Les Hauts Conseillants is owned by the Figeac-Bourotte family, who also own Chateau Bonalgue and Clos du Clocher, both in Pomerol, and Château du Courlat in Lussac-Saint-Émilion. The estate’s origins can be traced back to 1973, when Leopold Figeac and his son-in-law Pierre Bourotte purchased 5 hectares of vineyard in Lalande de Pomerol. 1973 was also the year that Pierre’s son, Jean-Baptiste Bourotte, was born. Jean-Baptiste is now in charge of the company.
The estate consists of 10 hectares of vineyards, and there are two distinct parcels of vines. 6 hectares of vineyards are situated on sandy-clayey soils with gravelly subsoil (on the Chevrol plateau in Neac) and there are also 4 hectares situated on a gravelly outcrop with 10% clay in Lalande. The vineyards are planted with 85% Merlot and the rest planted with Cabernet.
Whether you are seeking a beautifully balanced fine wine for Sunday roast pairings or adding a proven Right Bank classic to your cellar, Château Les Hauts Conseillants 2018 offers remarkable value and authentic Bordeaux craftsmanship. Chateau Les Hauts Conseillants deep, garnet red colour. The nose has aromas of ripe blackberry and black cherry fruit alongside more savoury, smoky, herbaceous and okay notes. This is rich and medium to full bodied wine on the palate with an abundance of black fruits flavours (blackberry and black currant), some savoury spicy naunces and a hint of vanilla-y oak. It is well structured with chewy tannins and a firm, mineral back bone with lengthy, dry finish.
