Description

Louis Jadot Moulin-à-Vent Château des Jacques is a premium French red wine from the Beaujolais wine-growing region. It is produced from 100% Gamay by the renowned wine producer Louis Jadot at one of the region’s most prestigious estates.

Louis Jadot in Beaujolais

Maison Louis Jadot bought Domaine Château des Jacques in 1996, becoming the first Burgundy house to own a major Beaujolais vineyard. The wine estate is situated at the edge of the village of Romanèche-Thorins, in Moulin-à-Vent, between Fleurie and Chenas. The Château has 69 hectares of vineyards, primarily in AOC Moulin-à-Vent, Fleurie and Morgon.

Moulin-à-Vent AOC

Moulin-à-Vent AOC is considered by many to be the most prestigious of the 10 Beaujolais crus and is often known as the “King of Beaujolais.” Wines from this cru tend to be structured, age-worthy, and more like a Burgundian Pinot Noir in style than typical light, fruity Beaujolais.

Louis Jadot Moulin-à-Vent Château des Jacques

This wine is a blend made from 100% Gamay sourced from Jadot’s eight great terroirs of Moulin-A-Vent: Rochegrès, Carquelin, Champ de Cour, Thorins les Vérillats, La Roche, la Rochelle and Les Caves. The pink granite soils are different from one vineyard to another, with various depths, variations and exposures.

Winemaking

  • All picking at Château des Jacques is done by hand
  • Grapes are left on the vine to ripen for as long as possible
  • After harvest, grapes are sorted by hand
  • Must is gently pressed, then chilled and held at 10-12°C for 2-5 days
  • Fermentation uses natural yeasts and lasts 20-30 days
  • Wine is vinified in closed vats
  • Both pigeage and pumping take place during the fermentation period, depending on the vintage characteristics
  • Approximately 40% of the wine is aged in oak barrels (new and second/third fill) for 10 months
  • Oak barrels are sourced equally from three forests: Allier, Limousin, and Nevers (a third each)
