Description

Bladnoch 14 Year Old Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Bladnoch Distillery

Bladnoch Distillery is a lowland distillery located at Bladnoch, near Wigtown, Dumfries and Galloway in south west Scotland. It is the most southerly distillery in Scotland, situated on the banks of the River Bladnoch and is one of just six active lowland distilleries.

Founded in 1817

The distillery was founded in 1817 by  John and Thomas McClelland. It passed through various ownerships including Inver House Distillers (1973), Arthur Bell & Sons (1983) and United Distillers (who acquired Bell’s in 1987). Eventually, the distillery would be mothballed in 1993 until 2000 when it was re-opened by Northern Irishman Raymond Armstrong.

The current owner is Australian David Prior, who acquired the distillery in 2015. Production restarted in 2017 after Prior had implemented a program of modernisation, replacing the distillery equipment. The master distiller is Dr Nick Savage, who joined the distillery from Macallan in 2019.

The Bladnoch Style

Bladnoch produces Lowland-style single malts, typically light, grassy, and floral, with some expressions showing fruitier or spicier notes due to varied cask types (e.g., Bourbon, Sherry, or red wine). Unlike many Lowland whiskies, Bladnoch uses double distillation and has occasionally produced peated malts, adding variety.

About Bladnoch 14 Year Old

The Bladnoch 14 Year Old Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is part of Bladnoch’s “Heritage” range of whiskies. It is aged exclusively in Oloroso Sherry casks. Bladnoch’s Master Distiller, Dr Nick Savage, hand selects every cask to bring together this rich expression showing notes of fruit cake, dark chocolate, and subtle sweet cinnamon on the palate. All natural colour, non chill-filtered and bottled at 46.7%.

As well as various Bladnoch whiskies, the distillery also produces a premium blended Scotch whisky called Pure Scot and a no-age statement Single Malt Lowland whisky called Kirkcowan (also available to buy now at Fareham Wine Cellar).
