Glenmorangie 18 year old is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky made in Tain, Ross-shire.
Glenmorangie can trace its origins back to 1843 (although it is claimed that alcoholic drinks of some sort have been made in the area since the middle ages). There was a brewery on the site in the 1700s that used to brew using water from the famous Tarlogie springs that Glenmorangie use today. However the site did not become a distillery until it was purchased by William Matheson in 1843 who installed some old gin stills. Today the distillery is owned by Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (who also own Ardbeg in Islay).
Glenmorangie 18 year old Single Malt Scotch Whisky spends 15 years maturing in American white oak casks. Then around 30% of the whisky is transferred to Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks where it is aged for a further 3 years. After 3 years the Sherry-aged portion is then blended with the original whisky (by now they are both 18 years old) to create a whisky with a rich bouquet and full, rounded flavour.
This is also known as the Glenmorangie 18 Year Old Extremely Rare. It is a very polished, elegant, soft, smooth and complex whisky.
