Glenmorangie 18 year old “The Infinita “is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky made in Tain, Ross-shire. Glenmorangie’s 18 year old whisky used to be known as the “Extremely Rare” and was rebranded as “The Infinita” in 2024. It is aged in Bourbon and ex-Oloroso Sherry casks.
Glenmorangie’s origins can be traced back to 1843, although the area has reportedly produced alcoholic beverages since the Middle Ages. In the 1700s, a brewery existed on the site, utilizing the renowned Tarlogie springs that Glenmorangie continues to use today. However, it was not until 1843, when William Matheson purchased the property and installed old gin stills, that the site became an operational distillery. Today, Glenmorangie is owned by the luxury conglomerate LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy), which also owns the renowned Islay distillery, Ardbeg. Glenmorangie is recognized as one of the leading premium Scotch whisky brands, renowned for its exceptional quality and craftsmanship.
Glenmorangie 18 year old The Infinita Single Malt Scotch Whisky spends 15 years maturing in American white oak casks. Then around 30% of the whisky is transferred to Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks, aged for a further 3 years. After 3 years the Sherry-aged portion is then blended with the original whisky (by now they are both 18 years old) to create a whisky with a rich bouquet and full, rounded flavour.
“The Infinita encapsulates every element of our house style in perfect harmony – it’s our most deliciously complex creation. A favourite with whisky lovers old and new, it seamlessly unites subtle sherry-cask hints and woody notes from its great age, with our Distillery’s signature soft and fruity character. The result is a beautifully balanced single malt so multi-layered, it’s as if you are drinking a different whisky every time.” Dr Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation.
In keeping with the recent redesigns of the rest of the core range (The Original 10 Year Old, Lasanta 12 Year Old, and Quinta Ruban 14 Year Old and Nectar 16 Year Old) The Infinita has been given a contemporary makeover. The new bottle boasts a captivating royal blue hue, elegantly embellished with infinity symbols and a rich copper label. Beyond aesthetics, this lighter bottle (a remarkable 12% reduction in weight) underscores Glenmorangie’s commitment to sustainable practices.
Aroma: Tangy, caramelised citrus-fruit aromas combine with a floral fragrance – a blend of honeysuckle, narcissus and jasmine.
Taste: A soft, oily texture gives way to flavours of nuts and spices, with notes of dates, figs and a hint of wood smoke.
Finish: The sweetness of dried fruit and dryness of Oloroso develops in the long and enticing finish.
