Château Maine Blanc Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux is a certified organic red Bordeaux from the Right Bank, available in a convenient 37.5cl half bottle at Fareham Wine Cellar.
Half bottles of wine are perfect when you want to enjoy a high-quality wine without committing to a full bottle. Ideal for solo dinners, intimate gatherings, gifts, or pairing different wines with multiple courses, they reduce waste and let you explore more varieties while keeping everything fresh.
This 37.5cl half bottle of Château Maine Blanc is an excellent introduction to the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. Perfect for everyday enjoyment, casual meals, or special occasions.
Situated near the village of Cars, just 4–5 km east of Blaye on the right bank of the Gironde, this estate has been farmed by the Chety family since 1803. Today, brothers Olivier and Emmanuel Chety run the property and also produce Château Haut Colombier and Château du Grand Pierre.
The 5-hectare vineyard lies on clayey-calcareous soils and is planted with 85% Merlot, 10% Malbec, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, with an average vine age of 30 years. Certified organic, the estate uses green, cereal-based fertilisers and phytotherapy treatments. Vineyard work includes de-leafing in June, a green harvest in mid-July, and hand-harvesting at dawn with manual sorting to ensure the grapes arrive cool and in perfect condition.
This organic Bordeaux red wine offers an open, inviting nose of ripe red and black berries, cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant, and subtle notes of liquorice and spice. On the palate, it is juicy and well-balanced with soft tannins, making it highly approachable young while still offering good structure.
Château Maine Blanc pairs beautifully with roast duck, grilled steak, rack of lamb, braised beef, game dishes, mushroom risotto, or aged hard cheeses.

How big is a half bottle of wine in ml?
A half bottle of wine contains 375ml (37.5cl), which is half the volume of a standard 750ml wine bottle.
How many glasses are in a half bottle of wine?
A 37.5cl half bottle typically provides 2 to 3 glasses of wine (in fact, three standard 125ml measures).
Are half bottles of wine good quality?
Yes, they contain the same wine as full bottles, just in a smaller format.
Do Bordeaux half bottles age well?
It depends on the wine, but yes, they can do, although they tend to mature slightly faster than standard 75cl bottles. They are not the best format for prolonged cellaring.
Do all wines come in half bottles?
No. In fact, these days, half bottles of wine are quite hard to find. However, there is still quite a traditional market for half bottles of Bordeaux.
Are half bottles of wine good for gifts?
Half bottles of wine make great gifts because they are more affordable than full bottles while still offering premium quality. They are ideal for creating mixed selections, pairing with food gifts, or giving something thoughtful without the commitment of a full-size bottle.
