Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande – often known simply as Pichon Comtesse – is one of the most celebrated Second Growths of Bordeaux, consistently producing wines that rival the First Growths in grace, depth, and longevity.
The 2006 vintage is a classic, elegant expression of Pauillac. In this year, the blend features a notably high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon alongside Merlot, omitting Petit Verdot entirely. It displays typical Pichon Comtesse refinement: layers of dark cassis, black cherry, cedarwood, and graphite, wrapped in silky, structured tannins.
The estate was originally founded in 1689 by Pierre de Mazure de Rauzan. It acquired its iconic name when Pierre’s daughter, Thérèse, received the land as part of her dowry upon marrying Jacques de Pichon Longueville, President of the Bordeaux Parliament. Recognised as a Second Cru Classé in the historic 1855 Classification, the property gained a reputation for crafting some of the most elegant, alluring wines in the Médoc.
In 1925, the Miailhe family purchased the estate, and in 1978, May-Eliane de Lencquesaing inherited it, tirelessly modernising the winery and championing its reputation worldwide. In November 2006, continuing the tradition of prestige ownership, Champagne Louis Roederer acquired the controlling share of the estate.
Pichon Comtesse spans 102 hectares under vine, occupying a privileged microclimate close to the Gironde Estuary in the southern section of Pauillac (bordering Saint-Julien). Comprising over 100 individual vineyard plots on deep gravel soils, the terroir gives pride of place to Cabernet Sauvignon, beautifully supported by Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

Appearance: Deep, clear garnet-purple with ruby reflections.
Aroma: Complex and evolving, offering notes of ripe blackcurrant, dark plum, sweet tobacco, crushed violets, and subtle toasted oak.
Palate: Medium to full-bodied with fantastic poise and freshness. Smooth, polished tannins carry pure dark fruit, cedar, and pencil shavings through to a long, graceful finish.
