Cuaba Tradicionales: A Double Figurado

Cuaba Tradicionales are an elegant and slender double figurado-shaped cigar. It is the second smallest in the Cuaba range, sitting between the Divinos and Exclusivos. This double figurado ( which is tapered at both ends) is the size and shape of most of the Havana cigars smoked in the second half of the 19th century. Smoking this shape of cigar is like stepping back in history!

Cuaba: Established 1996

The Cuaba brand was launched by Habanos S.A. in 1996 to recreate this traditional size of cigar. Double Figurados are at the pinnacle of the cigar maker’s art (the rollers must be Grade 7, the highest certification of roller), and for this alon,e they merit a place in every cigar enthusiast’s collection. The cigars are handmade at the Briones Montoto (Romeo y Julieta) factory in Havana. There are five main cigars produced under the Cuaba brand, from largest to smallest, they are Salmones, Distinguido, Exclusivo, Tradicionale and Divinos.

Cuaba Tradicionales cigars are a medium to full flavoured blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone and are ‘tripa larga totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade.

Why Are They Called Cuaba Cigars?

Cuaba, like Cohiba, is a Taino Indian word dating back to the time of Columbus. It was the native name for a highly combustible bush, which the Indians used to light their ‘cohibas’ (bunches of tobacco).
