This is the Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No 2 presented in a cedar lined aluminium tube.
The Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No 2 is a little bit shorter but a bit wider than its brother, the prestigious Epicure No 1. It is great Robusto sized cigar if one is looking for a milder, lighter style of cigar and makes a good daytime or afternoon cigar.
Hoyo de Monterrey cigars originate from the town of San Juan Martinez in the Vuelta Abajo region of Cuba. Jose Gener, who was originally from Tarragona in Spain, first used the name of his “vega” on a brand of Habanos in 1865. All of their cigars are made with long-filler and are totally handmade. ‘Hoyo’ literally means a ‘hole’ and in this case describes the low-lying position of the plantation on the fertile banks of the San Juan y Martinez river.
All sizes are ‘tripalarga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade using filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo tobacco zone.
The flavour of the the Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No 2 blend makes it an attractive choice for those who seek a delicate yet aromatic Habano that is lighter to the taste but with great elegance and complexity. The Robusto of choice for many cigar epicureans (although those that prefer something heavier might argue for the Partagas Serie D No 4!)
Smoking time around 40 minutes.
