Hampshire Sparkling Wine

1 bottle Hambledon Vineyard Classic Cuvee Brut

Find out what all the buzz is about with a superb English Sparkling Wine. Hambledon Vineyard is one of the best of all of the Hampshire wine producers (and the most local to Fareham Wine Cellar) and their Cuvee Brut has beaten some big name Champagnes in blind tastings. They continue to make waves in the sparkling wine world and also make a fantastic Rose and Premiere Cuvee.

Aromas of fresh sourdough, magnolia and lily scents which mingle with a hint of smoke over a core of greengage, red plums and dessert apples. The palate is vivid, almost vibrantly crunchy with precise, structured yet ripe acidity. It is linear, dense and long with momentum and power that bodes well for the future. This wine has energy and latent tension that will unfold to reveal layers of floral and stone fruit aromas and a rich palate with great length.

White Wines

1 bottle Chateau du Cros Sauvignon Bordeaux AC, Famille Boyer

Chateau du Cros is a small, family owned producer of Bordeaux. They specialise in dessert wines, but they also make this fantastic Bordeaux Sauvignon – a vastly underrated style of Bordeaux wine. In the 1970s, Chateau du Cros (its pronounced “Croz”) were one of the very first producers to age their white wines on the lees adding texture and complexity. Soon everyone else was doing the same!

Delicate and aromatic with floral, citrus, cut grass aromas and good mineral character. The palate is bold with hints of melon, quince, herbaceous notes and lemon and lime. Well-structured with good acidity.

1 bottle Louis Latour Grand Ardeche Chardonnay

Domaine Louis Latour is one of the most famous wine producers in the Urgundy region. As prices of Burgundy climb ever skywards, they have looked to other regions. The Grand Ardeche, from the Rhone, is a superb oaky Chardonnay which can stand alongside many Burgundy village wines that are a lot more expensive.

Shimmering pale yellow in colour. On the nose it reveals aromas of vanilla and brioche with hints of honey and acacia. This is a well-balanced wine, ample and generous in the mouth with flavours of almond paste and vanilla. The finish is bright and fresh.

Red Wines

1 bottle Domaine Jones Rouge, IGP Cotes Catalanes

This is a fantastic warm and spicy, southern French comprised of Grenache and Carignan. Owner and winemaker Katie Jones had not been making wine for long when she hit the headlines as local vandals, jealous of her success, broke into her winery and opened the taps on her vats sending a whole vintage of white wine down the drain. Happily Katie managed to overcome this and continues to grow from strength to strength.

Full-bodied, grenache-based red, whose rich, soft, red fruits flavours are delightfully pure and fresh thanks to minimal use of oak and savoury, damson-y acidity. Silky textured tannins and a lightness of touch that makes this red moreishly drinkable.

1 bottle Chateau Caroline, Moulis en Medoc Cru Bourgeois

We import from many smaller Chateaux direct and Chateau Caroline is a big favourite. Moulis is the smallest of the 6 communes of the Medoc. It is not massively well known and there are some great value gems to be found here. Chateau Caroline is around 60% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and the wines are fantastically plummy and rich. Perfect with a bit of red meat or the Sunday roast.

Dark ruby colour with aromas of black fruit, blackberry, and plummy notes. There are also hints of spice and touch of toast and oak. Powerful, plump and full palate – round but with a supple softness. There are flavours of plums, spices, cloves and a hint of vanilla. Good lingering finish.

1 bottle Alto Estate Shiraz, Stellenbosch

Alto Estate is an historic South African wine estate which can trace its origins back to 1693. This Shiraz is made by red wine specialist  winemaker Schalk van der Westhuizen. They are quite a traditional winery and this Shiraz is aged for 18 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels. The spicy, dark fruits in this wine make this a great wine to accompany Mediterranean dishes, spicy lamb dishes or a traditional South African Braai.

Intense ruby red colour. There are delicate spices with raspberry on the nose supported by smoky undertones. A full-bodied wine with delicate spices, dried fruits, prunes, spiced plums, vanilla flavours and a round, creamy finish with a good tannin structure.
