Irish Mist The Original Honey Liqueur is the new name for Irish Mist Original. It features a yellow / orange label instead of a black one. It was rebranded, renamed and repackaged to take advantage the current vogue for honey-based spirits and liqueurs. In fact the recipe has remained the same. This fantastic Irish liqueur is a blend of Irish whiskey, honey and natural aromatic spices. It was the first liqueur to be produced in Ireland and, while the bottle has changed a number of times over the years, the liqueur itself has remained true to its origins the recipe has not changed, so you can be sure of the warming whiskey and honeyed sweetness, beautifully counter balanced by aromatic spices, that gives Irish Mist its wonderfully complex flavour and taste experience. Irish Mist was the first liqueur to be produced in Ireland when commercial production began in 1947 at Tullamore, County Offaly. Tullamore is the hometown of the Williams family who were the original owners of Irish Mist. The chieftains and nobles of Irelands ancient clans throughout the centuries had drunk heather wine, a spirit combined with honey, spices and herbs. However, the secret of this legendary drink disappeared with the last great exodus of the Irish Earls in 1691, an event that has passed into Irish History as “The Flight of the Wild Geese”. The recipe was thought to have been lost forever until a traveller from Europe arrived, quite fortuitously, with an old manuscript he had found. Desmond Williams recognised it as the ancient recipe for heather wine and transformed it into Irish Mist.
