Chateau de Beaulon is primarily a Cognac producer but, like most Cognac producers, they also producer a range of Pineau Des Charentes. Château de Beaulon was built in 1480 and is one of the oldest and most authentic properties (Gothic / Renaissance) to be found in the Saintonge region of Cognac. It has passed through the hands of many owners through the years from the original Vinsons family, the de Beaulon family, the Bishops of Bordeaux and various others until Christian Thomas acquired the Chateau in 1965. He was instrumental in getting the estate listed as a French historical monument in 1987. Chateau de Beaulon red Pineau des Charentes is distinguished by the complex fruitiness of the noble red Bordeaux grape varieties – it is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot fortified with the estates own Cognac brandy (usually in the ratio of one third Cognac to two-thirds wine) prior to ageing for 5 years in oak barrels.
