Pusser’s Rum Gunpowder Proof is now available in a 5cl miniature bottle – the perfect format for trying one of the world’s most celebrated navy rums before committing to a full bottle, or for using as a genuinely original gift or favour. Bottled at a thunderous 54.5% ABV – original Admiralty strength, the proof at which the Royal Navy’s rum ration was once issued — this is not a novelty miniature but a full-strength expression of the authentic Pusser’s blend in its most portable format. Buy Pusser’s Rum Gunpowder Proof miniatures at Fareham Wine Cellar, in-store or online, and discover why Forbes Magazine once called Pusser’s the “Single Malt of Rum.”
The 5cl rum miniature is one of the most versatile formats in the spirits category – small enough to fit in a pocket or Christmas stocking, substantial enough to make a genuine impression. Here are the uses our customers find most valuable:
Named after the Royal Navy’s purser – the officer tasked with issuing the daily rum “tot” until Black Tot Day in 1970– Pusser’s Rum was revived in 1979 using the Admiralty’s original secret blending recipe, with every sale supporting the Royal Navy Sailor’s Fund.
Bottled at original Admiralty strength (54.5% ABV), Pusser’s Gunpowder Proof gets its legendary name from the historic test of igniting rum-soaked gunpowder. Distilled by Demerara Distillers in Guyana using the iconic Port Mourant double wooden pot still, this rich blend delivers an extraordinarily deep, wooden-aged character that is truly one of a kind.
Pusser’s Rum Gunpowder Proof 5cl miniatures are available in-store at Fareham Wine Cellar, 55 High Street, Fareham, Hampshire, PO16 7BG, or online at www.farehamwinecellar.co.uk with UK-wide delivery. We also stock the full range of Pusser’s Rum in 70cl bottles – including Blue Label, Gunpowder Proof 70cl, and Pusser’s 15 Year Old.
Pusser’s Gunpowder Proof is not a rum that hides its strength – but at 54.5% ABV it is remarkably smooth and complex for such a powerful spirit. On the nose, rich molasses, treacle, toffee, and warm spice lead, with a distinctive honey and vanilla character from the barrel ageing. The palate is full-bodied and mouth-filling, with brown sugar, caramel, coconut, and warming ginger and cinnamon spice, building to a long, powerful finish with a satisfying heat that lingers. A few drops of water or a single ice cube will open up the aromatics further and moderate the intensity for those who prefer a less challenging serve.
How much rum is in a 5cl miniature bottle?
A 5cl (50ml) miniature contains one standard single measure of rum — or, in the case of Pusser’s Gunpowder Proof at 54.5% ABV, a very significant single measure. It is approximately one-third of a standard pub double and enough for a small cocktail or a generous neat tasting pour.
Are rum miniatures a good gift?
Yes — particularly a miniature of a premium navy rum like Pusser’s Gunpowder Proof. The combination of an interesting story (300 years of Royal Navy history), a striking bottle, and a genuinely excellent spirit makes it a more thoughtful and memorable gift than a standard chocolate or novelty item at a comparable price point.
What is Gunpowder Proof rum?
Gunpowder Proof refers to the traditional naval method of testing rum strength — wetting gunpowder with the spirit to see if it would still ignite. If it did, the rum was at least 57% ABV (100° proof in the old British system). Pusser’s Gunpowder Proof is bottled at 54.5% ABV — just below the original gunpowder proof threshold, but at the strength at which the Royal Navy’s Admiralty blend was historically issued to sailors.
What is the difference between Pusser’s Blue Label and Gunpowder Proof?
Pusser’s Blue Label is bottled at 40% ABV — the standard strength for most rum expressions. Gunpowder Proof is bottled at 54.5% ABV, delivering considerably more intensity, depth, and heat. Both use the same Admiralty blending recipe; the Gunpowder Proof simply offers more of everything.
