Mezan Chiriqui Moscatel Cask Panama Rum is a new addition to the Mezan Rum catalogue. Alongside the Jamaica XO Rum, it is one of two permanent rums in the range. The other Mezan Rums consist of an ever-changing selection of vintage rums from various countries.
The concept of Mezan Rums is to bring to the consumer the story of the diversity of rum amongst the Caribbean Islands – styles and methods of production, and therefore the rums vary widely. It is marketed as “The Untouched Rum” and, indeed, there are no sweeteners or colourings added. The rum is completely natural.
The spirit for Mezan Chiriqui Moscatel Cask Panama Rum comes from a distillery in Panama which cultivates its own sugar cane for the production of aguardiente and rum. The rums are distinctive soft molasses based rums distilled in modern multi-column stills. As well as cultivating their own sugar cane the distillery also cultivates its own historic yeast cultures which adds character and individuality to the production of their rums.
The rums in this small batch have been aged twice in separate sets of white oak American Bourbon casks, to give added structure to the spirit. The rum is then finished in ex Moscatel casks. Bottled at 40% ABV.
The rum is named Chiriqui after the Chiriquí province in western Panama bordering Costa Rica and the Pacific Ocean.
